With the Andy Carroll deal confirmed it wouldn't be a bad idea to look at cheaper alternatives in the attacking area so we can become more competent upfront.
1.Wilfried Bony-Described as the next Didier Drogba, Bony is most certainly building up a reputation for himself as a natural goal-scorer. For his current Club Eredivsie based 'Vitesse' he has notched up an impressive 46 goals in 63 games ending the season as the leagues top scorer. He would fit Sam's role as a big target man and with a price tag in the reigon of £12 million would be affordable, we will have to fight off stiff competition for the Ivorian's signature as Newcastle and super rich Russian's Anzhi Makhachkala remain highly interested. Questions marks remain obviously apparent as will he be able to make to transaction over from Dutch football to English?
2. Darren Bent-Unlike Bony, Darren Bent is a proven Premier League goal-scorer. At Charlton, Tottenham, Sunderland and Aston Villa he has made an impact upfront, although last season was a rather forgettable one for Bent, failing to make any sort of impact at a struggling Villa side its quite clear that Bents time in the West midlands is up, and at 29 it would seem he is reaching the end of his peak. In 2007 Darren was on the verge of joining us but decided to join local rivals Tottenham instead… So don't be surprised if he comes under some scrutiny if the apparent interest is followed up, posing a cheaper alternative to Bony, a motivated Darren Bent could prove to be a decent acquisition.
3. Jordan Rhodes-Highly touted Jordan Rhodes has really burst onto the scene these last couple of years, dominating league 1 with Huddersfield and being a key part in their promotion. He carried on that form into his Blackburn career already scoring 27 in 43, linked with Rhodes last year and being only 23 years of age Jordan is certainly one for the future as-well as the present! The only problem being With Blackburn reluctant to sell and Rhodes being young and hungry we need to avoid paying over the odds for a currently unproven Premier League quantity.
4. Gary Hooper-Throughout Gary's short career he has found the back of the net, at Scunthorpe he started turning heads but it was at Current club Celtic he really established himself. With Champions League experience behind him and a few cups Hooper has achieved all he can in Scottish football so it would make sense for him to join a premier league club, also being a local lad that could act as an extra incentive for him to join us. The worry with Hooper is his height, not the tallest of strikers he is seen as more of a poacher than the type of target man we would expect Big Sam to go for. With Neil Lennon preferably keeping hold of Hooper Celtic would require a decent fee but with one year left on his contract it wouldn't be a bad idea for the Scottish Champions to cash in while they can.
5. We keep Modibo Maiga-Most of Maiga's appearances have come from the bench this season but at times he had looked a genuine talent, with Andy Carroll being regularly preferred and the African cup of nations it proved too difficult for Modibo to really establish himself as a forward; mainly playing on the wing. He wouldn't command a transfer fee so we could continue to look for added fire power without completely breaking the bank. With a good goal-scoring record for ex club Sochaux and a glimpse this season I believe we have only seen a small insight into Madibo Maiga and it would be a mistake to let him go at this current moment in time.
Well, there's my five please feel free to contribute with your own and if there is anybody you think I have missed out let me know!
