BIG Letdown

In all my time of supporting West Ham United we have had some players who didn't live up to the hype, personally Benni Mccarthy has to be one of the worst.

Arriving in the January transfer market 2010 Benni Mccarthy's arrival seemed like a decent enough signing; he came with a good goal-scoring record at Premier League rivals Blackburn Rovers and previous club Porto Fc, but it soon became evident as to why Blackburn let the South African go. Failing to find the net on any occasion for West Ham it was clear that Benni was well past his best, injured on his first game against Burnley which would subsequently keep him out for 6 weeks, and on returning it was obvious that he had been over indulging as his weight dramatically increased making it harder to prove himself as the player he once was.

Although Benni Mccarthy wasn't the most expensive transfer we have ever sanctioned it was his attitude and sheer reluctance what irritated many of us, he was brought in to score goals and failed; ultimately we were relegated soon after!

The inevitable happened when he was soon released from his contract leaving with a hefty pay-off in the process.
Since leaving Benni went Back to South Africa and played for the Orlando Pirates for a couple of years before recently retiring, with the South African league arguably not being a strenuous as the Premiership Benni shifted the weight and put in some decent performances notching up a few goals along the way for his new side. Which makes my ask how his short West Ham career could have panned out if he was willing to show some more desire and hunger to play (not literally)?

Other notable mentions could included Mido, Savio and Yaniv Katan.
