Making A Statement Or Reckless

Every year West Ham get linked with many players that could be considered 'unrealistic targets' players like Beckham, Owen, Ronaldinho have all been linked in the past; obviously nothing came from that speculation.

So this year the fact that we have signed Andy Carroll could be seen as a real statement of intent from the club, a couple years back he was a man rated at £35 million so the fact that we now own him surely proves that we have the ability to mix it with the big boys?
Not Strictly accurate, our financial problems have been well documented and have almost crippled over the last few years; so to hear that we have been linked Wilfired Bony worries me slightly as the sum being quoted for the Ivorian is £10.2 million, money we seemingly don't have!

Now many fans will 'jump on the bandwagon' and claim that we need to sign high profile players in order to improve but if these players don't produce the results many of you will be chanting 'Big Sam out' come January. A few weeks back I was all up for Signing a player like Bony, although that was before we signed Andy Carroll for £15 million plus £!00,000 a week wages; so I don't see where this extra money is going to come from?

The sensible option would  be to look towards loan deals and hopefully nick a bargain or two, hate to sound pessimistic but we are not automatically safe next season so honestly I would just be glad with surviving again and progressing onwards when we settle down into the new stadium. This goes back to my earlier point will heavy investment prove to be reckless in the long run? Look at QPR they invested heavily on well know players but that still didn't stop them from going down.
