According to reports West Ham are close to making a decision on Dutch midfielder Orlando Engelaar.
Engelaar participated in West Ham's 2-0 Bournemouth victory and it would appear that Sam Allardyce is evaluating his options.
At 6 foot 5 Orlando is a big presence who has great aerial ability, he has been described as a constant threat in the 18 yard box. Engelaar has spent most of his career in the Netherlands although the player did have a brief spell in Germany with Schalke 04 before moving onto PSV in 2009 for £3.5 million.
The player has represented the Netherlands over a dozen times playing in Euro 2008 and being included in the preliminary 27 man squad for the 2010 World Cup before being cut for the 23 man squad.
At 33 Engelaar is no spring chicken and a leap into the Premier League at this current moment in time will test whether the player still has it or not. Due to his towering height it would seem like a no brainer for Allardyce to sign the big man as he fits the specifications for a Sam Allardyce squad member.
If we fail in securing other targets maybe we should turn to Engelaar as a back up option, I feel that we are quite comfortable in the midfield area already; we might need another for cover purposes but that all depends on how the manager feels and injuries.
Has Engelaar got anything left that he could offer the squad?
