As we already know West Ham were showing a keen interest in Lille forward Salomon Kalou, but all seemed to calm down after the Duvzan Zapata deal looked close to completion. With the Zapata deal falling through it now looks like Kalou will be our top target.
This news doesn't come as much of a surprise, joint owner David Gold has expressed his own desire to sign Kalou, stating that he would 'complement the team.' A deal for the player is still far from done but both parties will hope to sort out a deal asap; as the Premier League season starts next month. Its been reported that a bid of £2.5 million will be offered for the Ivorians signature, if Lille are willing to accept that offer it would prove to be a great deal.
The reason I like Kalou is down to his adaptability, instead of acting as a cover for Andy Carroll; he could play alongside the big man. At Chelsea and now Lille he has scored goals and set some up. You would expect him to play on the wing. Due to past experiences, It would not be smart to get carried away with this one, hence the reason I'm not posting facts and figures on how he could improve our current squad, One thing we can all agree on is that Kalou is an accomplished player who could still has much to offer a Premiership team.
If a deal is sorted I would expect Salomon to take preference over Modibo Maiga, and start the games in which Andy was absent in, I'm hoping this deal is pulled off, as all this striker talk has went on for far to long now.
