Top 8 Finish?

Although there are prominent rumors surrounding his future that hasn't stopped Mohamed Diame thinking about his immediate West Ham future and his plans with the club. The player stated that himself and his teammates are focusing on a top 8 finish for the upcoming season.

With the 10th place finish last season it was only natural for the club to carry the optimism and momentum into the pre-season and it appears they've done so.
Although I have voiced my concerns in the past about getting too ahead of ourselfes, it's pleasing to hear such optimism coming from some players.

This is the first time in a while where West Ham fans have genuine reason to be excited for the future, we all know how difficult and grueling the Premiership can be; thats why it's the best league in the world!
So far the club has remained pretty much the same, with hardly any first team departures as of yet so the team remains familiar with each other, any new signings will be coming into a group with a good amount of team spirit, what will make it easier for individuals to settle down.

After some in depth thinking I believe that making a top 8 finish isn't totally out of the equation, I know I stated that I would be happy will survival a few days back; and I would but it doesn't hurt to have a goal and hope to reach it.

Is it possible for West Ham to finish 8th and have a cup run in the process, or is it too soon?
