This morning it has been reported that Honduran international Roger Rojas could be on his way to West Ham, on a season long loan deal.
Rojas has played for Olimpia since 2007 and been prolific in the process, scoring 53 goals in 101 appearances. At 5 Ft 8, he isn't he biggest forward in the world; what will have West Ham fans asking, what role will he play?
Big Sam is direct in his approach and unless Rojas can play on the wing; I'm not sure what impact he'll make. Maybe Sam is hoping to play him in some U21 games to prove himself but If we take a look back at last season when Wellington Paulista joined on loan, and although he was playing well with the youngsters,he failed to make a single first team appearance. If you go even further back; when we signed Paraguay forward Brian Montenegro, he was another who failed to make any sort of impact at the club.
It's a bit premature to be comparing Rojas to the two I mentioned but I defiantly think there could be some similarities, If the deal Is completed I hope he can prove me wrong as a new striker is needed and if he performs well he could become a real coup for the 'Hammers'. As I included above, Roger Rojas has a fantastic goal-scoring record with Olimpia but the differences between the Honduran league and Premier League are huge and It'll take some getting use to either way.
I'm not being pessimistic with this one, just stating the obvious!
What's your thoughts on Rojas?
