West Ham Must Remain Cautious

Co-owner David Gold confirmed that West Ham will have to sell in order to buy, I posted my suggestions on who I think we could sell and still maintain a good squad. You can view that article here. http://avidhammer.blogspot.co.uk/2013/08/5-players-west-ham-should-let-go.html

Its now being reported that players like Jack Collison and Modibo Maiga could also leave should a bid come in. I personally feel that letting Maiga go would be a big mistake, due to our lack of strikers we shouldn't be looking at selling the Malian, not until we have actually signed a replacement at the very least. In pre-season Maiga performed well and on Saturday against Cardiff he looked decent, in the post match interview Sam Allardyce was particularly complementary of how he led the front line and filled in well; considering the absence of Andy Carroll. I would prefer it if we kept Modibo for the time being, if other players are brought in then fair enough; for the moment it isn't worth the gamble.

As for Jack Collison I'm still undecided. Injuries are his main problem and it's a real shame because he posses much quality, as Iv mentioned before we are very strong in midfield and although Jack is versatile he's  easily replaceable. West Ham apparently want in the region of £2.5-£3.5 million and if a club is willing to offer that, should we let him go? Jack's knee problems was compared to Ledley Kings and I'm not sure if a club would be willing to take that sort of gamble on a player who has much talent but a terrible burden holding him back!

I think we should remain cautious when it comes to selling certain players, we have a close bunch who are in good spirits, and with morale being high we hope to keep it that way. Any new arrivals will have to settle down and with the transfer deadline edging ever closer clubs may start to panic. New personnel look set to come from abroad and making the move from European football to the Premiership can be difficult.
