Hammers Back In For Varela

News started circulating a couple of weeks back of West Ham's interest in Porto winger Silvestre Varela. With that speculation not leading to any deal it appeared that interest was lost in the Portuguese international.

Its now being reported that Sam Allardyce is back in for Varela with £6.5 million being the apparent fee required to gain his services.

One thing that is blatantly evident about Varela is his goal-scoring record, for a winger his posses the ability to score a goal or two; something we are in dire need of!

He would be able to assist Andy Carroll when he returns from injury so we wouldn't have to worry spending money on a player who will only be used as cover. At 28 Varela has a wealth of experience; internationally and at domestic level and is in the prime of his career you would expect him to lap up the chance to play in the Premier League, after achieving all he can in the Portuguese First Division it wouldn't do the player any harm to test his ability in the best league in the world!

With a few weeks until the transfer window closes there is still time for developments regarding this one but it seems like a deal that would help improve on our current team.
