Dutch International Say's No!

It was confirmed early this afternoon that Everton and Holland international defender Johnny Heitinga had rejected a move to West Ham.

Over the last couple of days it was reported from various sources that the World Cup finalist has been given permission to speak to our club and a deal looked imminent.

With Heitinga still hoping to leave Goddison park in order to further his chances of playing at the 2014 World Cup and the fact that we desperately need reinforcements at the back, this deal looked like a no-brainer. After-all, John would have added some much need experience to a currently injury prone back line and he would have got the first team football he desired, therefor furthering his hopes of playing for his country at the world cup.

Heitinga claimed that he wasn't 'convinced' that moving to West Ham was the right move for him at this stage in his career, so our search for new additions will go on for the time being!

With money apparently not being an issue, I find it odd that he would turn us down. Was he worried that the moment Winston Reid came back into the set up that he would be deemed surplus to requirements?

Was the atmosphere that mundane when he spoke to our people that he didn't fancy getting relegated with a club?

Ultimately we won't know but I'm sure there are others out there who will be willing to play for us.
