Cole Linked With Left Back Position

People can say what they want about Ashley Cole but there is no denying that he was one of the best left backs in the world in his prime. Now without a club after his Chelsea contract expired, there will no doubt be a list of suiters ready to offer Cole a quick way back into football.

The most recent club to be linked is our very own West Ham United, the left back position has been somewhat problematic for us in recent times and with Ravzan Rat failing to fit the bill and have his contract mutually terminated back in January and George McCartney being released, after the club didn't offer him a new contract, we find ourselves without any first team left backs.

The likelihood of this deal happening appears to be very slim, firstly the wage that Cole would command would no doubt be well and truly out of our price range and secondly somebody younger would be a better option; so we don't have the problem we have now in a couple of years time.

I know we shouldn't be too picky as our problems at left back are well documented but I feel that Ashley Cole just isn't the answer and rather a short time fix for a long term problem. The board have made they're intentions clear on building for the future so attempting to sign a 33 year old would surly go against their philosophy?

Take nothing away from Cole who is still a world class operator, I just feel that at this stage in his career we are not the team for him and our attention should be focused on other, more viable targets.
