Does Reid Really Rhyme With Greed?

Various online sources are reporting that West Ham defender and New Zealand Captain Winston Reid is reportedly looking for a bumper new contract deal in order to stay at West Ham beyond next summer (when his original contract expires).  Depending on what you read (no pun intended) you will be lead to believe that our big Kiwi defender is looking for a new deal in the region of £75k.

Although some may say that 75k is a bit much it's hard to say that he isn't worth that much. If you look at his performances over the past couple of seasons, you'll see how far he has developed as a player and losing him at this moment in time would leave a massive gap at the back, something that wouldn't be easily filled.

Our defense is very strong at the moment and we need to keep it that way, last year our saving grace was our ability to keep clean sheets and that was down to the defense and lets not forget the heroics from Adrian and of course a big shout out to Jussi!

It's being reported that we'll pay no more than £60k to Reid, whether or not that'll be accepted remains to be seen but one thing we can't do is let him go on a free, I know it might sound like a contradiction but if we could get a few million for him, it would most certainly be better than noting!

I don't see the point in panicking yet as we still have time to negotiate but I ask you this... How much would it cost to buy another defender of Winston Reid's quality? 10, 15, 20 Million?
I would suspect that £15 million would be a good estimate. So when you narrow it down, maybe giving in to his demands wouldn't be such a bad thing, he has proven his quality in the Premier League and should be rewarded.
