Nolan Injury Gives Others The Chance To Shine

After Saturdays game against Crystal Palace, my initial thought was, I hope Kevin Nolan doesn't automatically regain his first team spot the moment he recovers from injury. Well, little did I know that our Captains injury would be worse that first feared, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that I was happy to hear the news because I wasn't!
I just felt that it was about time that somebody else got a chance over Nolan, we have Diame, Poyet, Morrison and Mauro zarate.

It's a little know fact that no matter how bad the performance, Kevin Nolan is somewhat untouchable. For example, last season when Kevin what sent of 3 times in the space of a few games, the moment his suspension was served, he regained his first team place like nothing had ever happened. Kevin did go on to contribute with a few goals that helped us when some important games, so credit where credits due.

I find it quiet telling that Newcastle wouldn't offer Nolan a new contract when he demanded one 3 years back. By all accounts, Kevin wanted a new 5 year contract from Newcastle to show that they were committed to keeping one of their best players but when the club refused to offer him a contract that long, it was only a matter of time before ex Bolton and Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce came in for him.

I feel that Kevin has served us well but a team shouldn't be built around a 32 who best days are clearly behind him. As proven on Saturday, we have players who are capable of making more of an impact that Nolan and the performance of Mauro has proven that.

I still believe that as a positive influence in the dressing room Kevin Nolan is a valuable asset but as an out and out first team player it look as if we have better and younger players.
