It has been reported that there is interest building up from West Ham for Liverpool winger/left back Stewart Downing.
News that could receive mixed reviews from both sets of fans as Downing isn't held in the highest regard at Anfield after failing to live up to the £20 million price Liverpool paid for him.
It is thought that Sam Allardyce is hoping to link up Downing with ex teammate Andy Carroll, a player that can deliver a good cross and assist Carroll. A job I thought Matt Jarvis was brought in to do, with over £10 million paid for Jarvis it would be disappointing for many West Ham fans to see him pushed out of the squad, on the other hand some friendly competition could do him some good?
In regards to Downing; a player that has regularly featured for England, making his name at Middlesborough before moving on to Aston Villa now Liverpool, still only 28 he still have a few years ahead of him at a high level. All depending on the transfer fee, wages, I believe that Stewart could be a good signing for the 'hammers'.
It'll be interesting to see how this one develops, a player who still has much to offer and although the last few years haven't been the best he certainly has the time to rectify any doubters, even if West Ham is the destination for Downing I wouldn't be surprised if he leaves Liverpool sooner rather than later.
