In recent years I feel that we have struggled in the left back position, players like Herita Ilunga and Wayne Bridge never really got the job done for us. With George Mccartney struggling with injuries last season and Danny Potts being knocked out cold in a game against Arsenal; we seriously lacked the presence of a natural left back, with Joey O'Brien mainly playing in the position-and doing a decent enough job.
With the arrival of Ravzan Rat we have a vastly experienced left back who has represented his country (Romania) on many occasions, and a player who has Champions League experience. For the first time in a while we can go into the new season knowing that we have the left back positions covered. No disrespect to Mccartney as I felt he has done a good job but if we intend to aim for a Europa League spot or replicate the form of last season we'll need to have a player who has been there and done it.
We were linked with Rat or as his teammates call him 'Roland' in January but he apparently turned us down for French giants Marseille, I felt disappointed at the time as a new left back was desperately needed!
With the inclusion of Rat it should help young Danny Potts who has been making all the right signs of a very good player in recent times.
I hope Ravzan lives up to the hype and finally lifts the curse of the dreaded left back position, not only for the fans, himself and the club, but purely on the basis that I have included him on my Fantasy Football team, so good luck Roland!
Cheers!
