Last season we signed Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Matt Jarvis, for a fee eventually rising to £10.75 million. This was seen as a very ambitious move from West Ham; as Matt had been putting in consistently high performances for relegated Wolves, which earned the player an England Call up.
Making close to 30 appearances last season Jarvis was clearly our main playmaker, he was brought in to deliver high quality crosses to big target man Andy Carroll. You can't deny that he delivered crosses but most of the crosses didn't cause the opposition any problems. Considering the price we paid for him I have to say I wasn't thrilled with Jarvis contribution, only with the club a year; of course he still has plenty of time to prove any doubters wrong.
Although I am being pedantic; for a fee of over £!0 million we have the right to be, he had good moments and showed a glimpse of a top quality player but it wasn't consistent enough for my liking.
I found him very frustrating to watch most of the time and annoyed that we somehow get ripped off and made to pay over the odds for players that are not worth it.
The money paid for him comes purely down to that 1 substitute appearance he made for England, before that I never really heard much about the guy. For the ££ paid out I believe we could of brought in a player with equal or more talent the Jarvis, look at Nathan Redmond, £2 million paid from Norwich; great bit of business right there!
With Wolves relegated to League 1, If only we waited another year...
Will Jarvis come through?
Have I been too harsh on the player?
