This is a potential transfer that a few years back would have had supporters of any club jumping up and down with excitement, but why has the news that Argentinean Striker Javier Saviola is being linked with West Ham had the opposite effect?
A player who was highly rated from a young age who made his name as a natural finisher at River Plate was quickly snapped up by European giants Barcelona, then moving on to Monaco and Seville on loan, Real Madrid, Benfica and most recently Malaga. At every club he has played for Javier has always been able to find the back of the net and posses a good goal-scoring record-but many still feel that he never lived up to the hype, and does the fact the he finds himself without a club at the playable age of 31 back that statement up?
Cardiff and The Hammers are thought to be interested in acquiring the services of Saviola, but as a West Ham fan I can't say I'm thrilled to hear this news; as he doesn't meet our style of play in the slightest and I couldn't see him playing on the wing feeding balls in to Andy Carroll, so I'll think we'll take a hit on this one and let Cardiff or any other potential suitors have him.
No disrespect to Saviola, I dare say he can still do a job at a respectable level but West Ham are not the team for him, he was never the biggest or strongest of lads so for West Ham I don't think it would benefit us or the player for that matter. I can't see wages being cheap either so it would be for the best if we passed on this one.
