Most West Ham fans will be able to agree that a second maybe even third striker is needed at the club, for years now we have lacked a genuine goal-scorer and at times that has been the difference between relegation and safety!
The 3 main targets that are linked with us are Salomon Kalou, Demba Ba and Romelu Lukaku, all worthy candidates. Due to finances and in-practicality we can't have all three so who would be the best choice?
Kalou-Salomon Kalou had an impressive goal-scoring record while at Chelsea scoring close to every 3rd game, he has carried the form with him over to France for Lille so a move for the Ivory Coast international would suit both parties well, with Kalou interested in a move back to England. He wouldn't automatically gain a first team sport but he would cause some rotation and hopefully replicate that form he's produced in the past. With stern competition from West Brom trying to gain Kalou's signautre will take some persuading as a move to the Midlands would see him re-united with ex Chelsea coach Steve Clarke, although wages look to be a problem for them so it could be just a matter of time.
Ba-Demba Ba, a reunion many of us would like to see; after giving Demba his opportunity in English football he turned his back on us when we were relegated and joined Newcastle, since moving on to Chelsea.
You can't deny that Ba is a constant threat in the box and can be clinical, with the return of Jose to Chelsea it seems that much of the Chelsea squad looks vulnerable; so Ba could be on his way out, with a loan deal looking the more likely option a move for the ex hammer would go down a treat and with any luck he would be interested in re-joining!
Lukaku-Romelu Lukaku was a real revelation for West Brom last year proving why so many rate him, still only 20 years of age we can expect to see Romelu around for a long time to come and hopefully West Ham United can be apart of his career. I'm not expecting a permanent deal for Romelu as this is a player who will be hoping to break into the first team at Chelsea soon but for the time being another season long loan deal will not do him any harm. He's a big target man and can play upfront on his own so he meets Big Sam's approach perfectly, it still remains unknown as to where things lay with Chelsea, do they want to keep him or loan him out again?
Time will tell.
Personally I would like Lukaku, I know he is still young and could be considered a 'gamble' but this is a player who has the potential to reach European and World glory so for him to contribute in exciting times for West Ham would prove to be a priceless experience for both player and club.
