Depending on departures Sam may not need to spend much more, so with all of our business being done so early on we can expect a quiet Transfer deadline day. With the returning Alou Diarra and Ravel Morrison it would appear that Sam will give chances to both players, this is pleasing news I have to say, Ravel is already relishing in pre-season and Alou looked reliable in the games he played in last season.
At the back we are very competent and with any luck we'll remain that way, Reid and Collins formed a sturdy partnership keeping Tomkins out of the squad, so he'll have a point to prove in order to regain a first team spot, with Titus Bramble training with us; lets not rule out the possibility of him joining on a short deal to make up numbers and be competitive.
Midfield goes without saying, probably out strongest area on the pitch.
Diame, Nolan, Noble, Collison, Cole, and Diarra are all very reliable and if we can retain Diame that would be an added bonus, I expect Nolan to do what he does best and get in those goal-scoring positions, people question his work rate but with 10 goals last season that we silence most critics. If Joe Cole can avoid injuries that will be a huge bonus for the player and club.
I believe we are lacking that special something on the wing, hopefully Ravel can be the answer to that.
Vaz Te and Jarvis were pretty unimpressive, although Jarvis did deliver many balls into the area most of them came down to nothing so he has much to do in order to up to the money forked out for him. Worst comes to worst; and I guess we could away with wings as they are, as long as the players commanding them up their game!
Reinforcements are needed upfront and we'll soon be getting just that, If Maiga stays that shouldn't do us any harm but I wouldn't be surprised if he goes back to France, Carroll looks set to miss the first game against Cardiff, so a new signing happening up front sooner rather than later will benefit everybody.
I have to agree with Sam and say that our current squad looks more than capable of building on the success of last season.
