Sam Allarydce last night confirmed what we already knew, Andy Carroll WON'T be fit for the start of the season. This doesn't come as a surprise after the big forward missed a few of England's friendly internationals due to the same heel injury. Reports initially had it that AC wouldn't be fit until October/November time, so anything before that time could be seen as a bonus!
The problem we currently have is simple, we only have one other first team striker (Modibo Maiga) and with the Duvzan Zapata deal not 100% certain to happen; we appear to have a lack of forwards crisis on our hands, merely a month before kick-off.
I have expressed my issues with signing Carroll from the get go, due to his poor injury record, he doesn't seem to pick up small knocks every so often which keeps him out for short periods, it'll be big one's that keep him out for long periods of time-and considering our whole style of play is based around him it make thinks difficult. A fit Andy Carroll is a top quality player but I'm sure this won't be the last we hear on the matter.
The best possible outcome would be for Big Sam to find a second striker or third striker, if Maiga stays that offers us another option but reinforcements are still needed, urgently!
I previously mentioned the Zapata deal could still be another week or two away and the end result might be that the player gets rejected on the work permit appeal, so it may be wise to start looking elsewhere.
A find it ironic how a few months back we had 5 strikers to choose from and now we have 1, some may say give youth a chance but if they are not ready their is nothing we can do about it. Realistically we have to be honest and look for a cheap alternative, its would be incredibly reckless for us to spend the type of money spent on Andy as we can't afford to!
Has Sam putt all of his eggs into one basket with the Andy Carroll deal?
