Its the news that all West Ham fans hoped not to hear, that Andy Carroll has suffered a injury setback and depending on what you read, you'll hear reports of it being serious enough to keep him out of the first half of the season, other reports suggest it could be for the whole season!
No point in speculating; as I'm sure the club will fill us in with the details when they know more themselves. With Carroll travelling to Holland to see a specialist on the same foot problem that has kept the England striker out since May, although the injury is on the same foot its on a different part so we'll wait and see.
When we initially signed Andy I raised my concerns of his chequered injury past and for the money the club is paying out for him, it seems that it has come back to bite me! This injury has really damaged our hopes of stability for the current season and AC's 2014 England World Cup aspirations.
So, should we have any regrets?
Lets not forget; much was made of our signing of the once £35 million man, 'will he join or won't he' was the question many West Ham fans were asking and now it seems that the deal has received some backlash, with some fans stating that we put all of our eggs into one basket and have paid the ultimate price. A fit Andy Carroll is a player who posses much potential/talent but lets take a look back to ex West Ham and England forward Dean Ashton, like Andy they were entering the prime of they're careers until cruel foot injuries started to hinder their progress, Ashton has just broke into the England first team and it looked like the missing link was found!
Lets hope that Andy doesn't suffer the cruel fate that Ashton did but in recent years West Ham in particular have struggled with injuries to key players and in recent weeks we have lost Stewart
Downing, Joe Cole, Alou Diarra and now Andy Carroll is set for an extended spell on the side-lines.
Let hope the signing of ex Fulham man Mladen Petric will offer the 'Hammers' some much needed fire power upfront.
