For years now, West Ham fans have had to endure their key players getting injured and most of us considered it 'unlucky.' This season it looked as-if we had finally put all of those worries behind us, pre-season went well with no first team players picking up any real significant knocks,so it looked promising. After a good season last year I think its safe to say that many of us would be very happy if we were able to replicate that.
With the teams that finished around us last season
investing heavily into their squads, we all knew how difficult it would
be to build on the achievements of last year, so another 10th placed finish
would be more than welcomed!
Our dealings in the transfer market appeared to be good, Andy Carroll signing on a permanent basis was a good bit of business in the eyes of many, Stewart Downing was a shock buy but he looked like he could complement the team quite nicely on the wings alongside Matt Jarvis, the arrivals of Ravzan Rat, Adrian and prospect Danny Whitehead were also welcomed. Not to forget the recently signed Mladen Petric, a striker was desperately needed and it would of been ideal if we could of completed some sort of deal earlier on but hopefully it'll be worth the wait.
With injuries sustained to Stewart Downing, Joe Cole and Alou Diarra, I started to feel a real sense of deja vu and the feelings where cemented when Andy Carroll was left injured with a foot injury, the likely outcome is that he'll be out until the new year at least.
Iv heard many different opinions with some blaming the West Ham medical team for the constant bad luck, past players like Danny Gabbidon and Kieron Dyer have all had a pop about the medical team after leaving but I never really brought into the hype.
Its still early days and with the game against Southampton on the weekend, Big Sam will be hoping that his side can pick up the points and score a few goals along the way, the last two Premier League fixture against Newcastle and Stoke have seen the East Londoners fail to hit the back of the net so much improvement is needed in order to get the result.
