Yesterdays 0-0 draw against League rivals Southampton marked our 3rd consecutive game without hitting the back of the net, not a statistic worth bragging about!
I felt it was a good point gained and although it was another forgettable game it reiterated that we are seriously lacking some quality in the final 3rd. Our Frontman Modibo Maiga was the most uninspiring player on the field in my opinion, he didn't pose any type of goal threat and didn't look Premier League standard. I'm seriously staring to question his ability at the top level.
Positives from the game were, Ravel Morrison making his debut, he looked very confident and considering it was his first Premier League start I was impressed. Mark Noble had a good game often channeling ex West Ham captain Scott Parker with his dedication to win the ball and the fact that he never stopped running was pleasing. Man of the match had to be Jussi Jasskelainen, once again proving why he has still got it at the age of 38, keeping us in the game with crucial saves.
If we had more of a threat upfront I felt the game would have been ours for the taking. With rumors circulating that Carlton Cole is working hard in training I'm hoping that he can sign back on asap. A couple of months back I couldn't have predicted myself saying that but Carlton proved on many occasions how good he was, so a fit and motivated Carlton Cole could be exactly what we need!
Mladen Petric looks set to feature in the coming weeks so reinforcements are there. Most if not all West Ham fans will be eager to see the impact the Croatian can make as his time in Fulham was underwhelming, but Petric is a player who can score goals, for his previous clubs he has a 1:3 goals to game ratio, very impressive stats for a free agent.
Iv heard many predict a difficult season for our club but we are only 4 games in so 'Keep Calm and remain Optimistic!'
I predicted a difficult season before it started. I am almost ashamed to see West Ham playing the way they do under Fat Sam and hate to see the defence booting the ball up field like school girls just to have it come back again and again. The final third has been a problem since before we dropped into the Championship and I don't ever want to see Carton Cole in Claret and Blue again. I was so fed up with seeing him miss golden opportunities by tripping over and looking back at the bench and laughing. He was paid a lot of money to score goals and he never really came up to the mark. Our best bet now is Petric. I just hope he is match fit soon and not yet another player who WHU have invested in just to sit and watch the game week in week out.
