Carlton Cole's return to West Ham is nearing closer to completion. With Sam Allardyce looking to offer the ex hammer a return to Upton Park to booster his attacking options. It was reported that Cole looked set to sign last month but after failing to prove his fitness, the club decided to let the Striker prove his fitness before signing back on.
When Carlton was let go I wasn't against the idea.
Last season he struggled to make any sort of impact in the first team and was kept out by the good form of Andy Carroll, so its safe to assume that Cole wouldn't be back on the West Ham agenda if it wasn't for the injuries that Andy has picked up! Carlton's won't prove the end of our attacking problems in the long run, but I believe he'll be the best thing we've got (for the time being). Mladen Petric is still looking to gain first team fitness and Modibo Maiga hasn't done anything to suggest that he won't be sold as soon as reinforcements are brought in. So in a way I'm more than happy that Cole looks set to return.
West Ham fans witnessed the best and worst of Carlton Cole, but when he is on from he can be a real handful for the opposition defense. If you look back at our previous performances in the League; it's painfully evident that we need some quality in the final 3rd and although many will ask the question 'is Carlton Cole the man to bring that?' This answer is yes...
Ideally we would have been able to sign a striker in the transfer window but the funds were not there!
My personal preference was to bring Demba Ba back or Romelu Lukaku but those deal were not finalised, so Carlton Cole's return is now the best option we have and his return was always inevitable the moment we singed Stewart Downing.
Will Carlton be welcomed back by the majority of West Ham fans?
