So, What Was The Point?

I mentioned this in a previous article but I didn't go into details. So what was the point of re-signing Carlton Cole and the signing of Mladen Petric?

Watching West Ham games has been painful as of late; as we seem to dominate and hold our own but we can't capitalise on any chances that are created.

We have players who can cross the ball and have proven this so far, on Saturday I felt that Downing was our best player, that's not saying much but at-least he gave it a go, but nobody managed to convert the chances we created or even come close. When Sam brought Modibo Maiga on I was surprised, I was expecting Carlton Cole to be introduced and although Maiga's contribution wasn't the worst we have seen, Carton Possess the big presence we needed, that way we could contend with the long balls rather than getting bullied by the Chelsea defenders.

As for Croatian international Petric I remain confused, Petric has played a few games but hasn't really had the chance prove his ability to club and the fans. I'm not sure if he is 100% fit and he has struggled with minor injuries since joining so it's frustrating for everybody.

This still doesn't clear anything up for us fans though. I'm not sure why we would waste the wage budget on a couple of players who are not going to be given a chance, they were both brought in to act as cover for the injured Andy Carroll but their contribution has been minimal.

I'm going to hazard a guess that Carlton will be allowed to leave in January as he only signed on for a 3 month contract, Petric signed until the end of the season but I wouldn't be surprised if he was to leave by mutual consent if he continues to struggle to make a first team impact. With both likely to leave that should free up some funds for a new player or two.
