Downing Starting To Shine

The signing of Stewart Downing appeared to be somewhat unneeded. After-all, we were covered on the wings and many of us would have preferred a striker to have been brought in rather than another midfielder.

Although as of late, I feel Downing has been up there as one of our star performers. If we had a striker who was capable of scoring goals, the high standard of crosses Downing has been putting into the box would have been converted with ease.

I'm sure I don't stand alone in my thinking but players like Downing and Morrison have been a real shining light in a currently underperforming side. I've lost count of the number of crosses that have been put into the area and they have went to waste after we failed to finish them, It must be very frustrating for the team and Downing in particular as our failure to score goals has seen people questioning Big Sam's future.

Last night Downing looked as-if he scored a great goal until in was ruled out by the linesman for an apparent foul. Initially I thought it was because it was offside, as a West Ham it's only natural for me to complain and say it was a perfectly acceptable goal that should of counted but alas we'll have to move on.

Confidence can be taken from the goal as it was a classy finish by Downing and he will hopefully keep putting in the high standard of performances and when a new striker is signed we should see more goals!
