Last season was the biggest season of Ravel Morrison's short career. After breaking into to the West Ham first team and a stellar performance against rivals Tottenham Hotspur, it finally looked as if he was going to prove the doubters wrong. 9 months on from his best performance in a West Ham shirt and I can't help but fill disappointment. After all, if he was able to keep on performing anywhere near to that standard, its safe to assume that he would have been on the plane to Rio with the rest of the England squad. Instead he finds himself preparing for the season ahead with the hammers, surly knowing that this could be his last chance in our claret and blue if he doesn't knuckle down and give it his all.
I used to back Ravel up quite frequently, when many cited his attitude as his downfall but now I'm starting to wonder if I was wrong to do so. At the age of 21 he has already worked with managers such as Sam Allardyce, Sir Alex Ferguson and Harry Redknapp. 3 of the most experience managers in British football, yet all three have said the same, 'great player but needs to remain focused.' Even ex teammates have praised the lad but no amount of praise has made the slightest of difference at the moment.
As I mentioned in the beginning of this article, last season had the potential to make Ravel Morrison career, England are lacking in almost every department and a player of Ravel's quality is exactly what we need but he isn't going to get a call up while playing in the Championship.
Which makes me ask the question, is Ravel Morrison a ticking time bomb?
We have seen it countless of times, bright young English talent flops. If at the age of 21 his can't change his attitude it could be argued that he never will and if the prospect of representing your country at the World Cup isn't motivation for a young talent, how do you motivate them in the long run?
I'm not knocking the lad, as my opinion won't mean a thing to him I'm sure but I feel as if England and West Ham are on the verge of losing a serious talent!
